Presbytery Training Opportunities
Leading Worship | Sat 25th April, 9th May & 30th May 2026
Please note this course requires the written support of your minister or interim moderator to attend.
This course is for those who are part of a worship team or are interested in participating in the act of worship in their congregation. There is an opportunity to apply to attend one or more of the sessions in weeks 1 & 2, if you only wish to focus on specific aspects of worship.
For those who participate, more fully or have a desire to do so then attendance at all three weeks is required.
It goes through the preparation of a service of worship, the resources available to provide help and finishes with the groups preparing and delivering a short service.
This course is run over 3 sessions of 6 hours and involves some work between sessions.
It will offer an understanding of the purpose of worship and look at techniques and the range of resources which are available.
Week 1 will deal with the Bible & prayer in worship, along with speaking techniques.
Week 2 will consider music in worship and preparing a talk/reflection and how to bring it all together.
Week 3 as part of the seminar there will be an exercise to prepare and deliver a short act of worship.
The course will be held at Bankfoot Church Centre and will run from 10am to approx. 4pm each day.
Eldership today | 28th March 2026
What is it to be an elder in the 21st century? This seminar looks at the role of the elder as part of the leadership team of the congregation.
Topics covered will include:-
· The role of the elder.
· Leadership role of the elder.
· The responsibilities of the Kirk Session.
· How to be an effective member of the Kirk Session.
· How to carry out the main tasks of the Kirk Session.
This course is for, those considering the eldership, those new to the eldership and experienced elders wishing to review the role.

Pastoral & Bereavement Visiting – No date has as yet been set for this course, but please apply if you’re interested and are not currently on the waiting list to attend.
This seminar deals with Pastoral visiting skills, listening skills and practical guidelines for visitors.
The bereavement session looks at how we relate to and support individuals and families who have experienced bereavement by looking at the Experiences of bereavement and the process of mourning.
Further information will be issued in shortly for a date and location of this course.
All the courses are all held on a Saturday.
